How Much Does a Tasmanian Golf Trip Actually Cost in 2026-27?

Planning a golf trip to Tasmania is an exciting idea - but one of the first questions every group asks is:

How much is this actually going to cost?

The answer depends on your style of travel, but one thing is clear: Tasmania now offers a world-class golf experience across both Hobart and the north of the state - and it represents outstanding value compared to overseas trips.

Here’s what to expect.

The Short Answer

For a typical 4–5 day golf trip, most groups spend:

👉 $2,500 – $4,500 per person

That includes:

  • Golf in and around Hobart, including 7 Mile Golf

  • Optional rounds at Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm

  • Accommodation, transport, food and experiences

Flights to Tasmania

Flights will vary depending on where you’re travelling from:

  • Melbourne or Sydney: $150 – $400 return

  • Other cities: higher depending on connections

Booking early is key, particularly in peak golf season.

Golf Costs

Tasmania’s golf offering is now more balanced than ever - and many trips begin in Hobart.

A standout is 7Mile Golf, which has quickly become one of the most talked-about new courses in Australia.

Expect:

  • $80 – $150 per round (approx.) in the Hobart region

  • $290 per round for 7Mile Golf

  • $199 per round at Barnbougle courses

Typical total golf spend: 👉 $400 – $800 per person

Carts are $55 - $60 at most of the clubs, but you’ll need a medical certificate for a cart and a compulsory caddy at 7Mile Golf and Barnbougle - these are world-class courses that value the integrity of the course. 7Mile does have a limited number of MGI electric buggies available to rent.

Many groups now choose to:

  • Play multiple rounds at 7 Mile Beach with a warm-up round at RHGC, Tasmania Golf Club or Kingston Beach Golf Club

  • Combine that with a trip north to Barnbougle and the new Championship Course in Launceston (opening in January).

Accommodation

Most itineraries are split between:

  • Hobart (2–3 nights)

  • Barnbougle or northern Tasmania (1–2 nights)

Typical costs:

  • Mid-range: $150 – $250 per night (per person twin share)

  • Premium: $250 – $400+ per night

Transport

Transport plays a bigger role than many expect.

  • Hobart → Barnbougle is around 3.5 hours

  • Courses, restaurants and experiences are spread out

Private group transport typically costs:

👉 $300 – $600 per person

It’s also what allows you to build in:

  • Winery visits

  • Distillery stops

  • Flexible itineraries

Food, Drinks & Experiences

Hobart is now one of Australia’s standout food and drink destinations - and this is a big part of the trip.

Allow:

  • $80 – $150 per day

This can include:

  • Great restaurants

  • Local wine

  • Tasmania’s fast-growing whisky scene

Many groups also include a stop at a winery or distillery while travelling north - often a highlight. We’ve got our favourites, of course, and happy to discuss your preferences as well.

Typical 5-Day Trip Cost Breakdown

A realistic example:

  • Flights: $200 – $400

  • Golf: $500 – $800

  • Accommodation: $600 – $1,200

  • Transport: $300 – $600

  • Food & drinks: $400 – $700

👉 Total: $2,500 – $4,500 per person

What Impacts the Cost Most?

  • Time of year

  • Accommodation level

  • Group size

  • How much you include beyond golf

And increasingly: 👉 how much time you spend in Hobart vs travelling north

Why Hobart is Now Central to the Trip

With the emergence of 7Mile Golf, Hobart is no longer just the starting point - it’s a key part of the experience.

Many groups now:

  • Spend more time based in Hobart

  • Play multiple rounds locally

  • Combine golf with the city’s food, wine and whisky scene

It creates a more relaxed, balanced trip - without sacrificing great golf.

Is It Worth It?

Compared to international golf trips, Tasmania offers:

  • World-class courses

  • Easy travel

  • Outstanding off-course experiences

All at a price point that represents genuine value. It's like playing classic links courses in Scotland or Ireland without the passport, the rain or the jetlag.

Planning Your Trip

The difference between a good trip and a great one often comes down to how it’s structured.

  • Where you base yourself

  • How the travel flows

  • Which courses you prioritise

Getting that right ensures you make the most of both your time and your budget.
